Will the new “IT” Movie, see a new wave of Creepy Clown sightings?

13 Jun

A subject not talked about on here for ages is that of the Clown sightings of the past few years. The worldwide craze started by the Northampton Clown, caused much fear and loathing in the community in the UK and US and started a viral sensation that now is but a distant memory.

September sees the release of the new version of Stephen King’s seminal horror, “IT” which I’m sure that we are all familiar with. The movie looks like something most fans of the horror genre will be looking forward to, but maybe not if you’re caulrophobia (Phobic of clowns) but the whole thing has got me thinking that while the whole craze is old hat now, we might be seeing a resurgence of such antics again once the movie has been released.

If you haven’t seen the trailer for the new film yet, where have you been? No longer will we see the great Tim Curry don the guise of the infamous “Pennywise the dancing clown”, but now Bill Skarsgard will play the evil alien entity who disguises itself as a variety of head fucks to feast on the young residents of the town of Derry.

For those of you who haven’t seen the trailer, here it is before we carry on with the discourse.

Looks ok, but the proof of the pudding will be seeing the movie in its entirety. It does look as if the movie will deal with the first part of the story (when they were kids) with a sequel in the works probably to carry on the second part of the story (when they are adults) and have to face “IT” once more to stop its reign of terror.

This aside, I’m pretty sure we are going to get the onslaught of clown sightings as a response to the movie’s release. There will always be some joker (get it?!) ready to put on the clown suit and mask and start scaring people for a variety of reasons, be it for publicity, for viral hits or simply to spite those who live in fear of clowns. This is a big issue, seriously bigger than you’d realise, some people really do have a proper fear of all things clown. the last time I blogged about them, at one point I received 160,000 hits in a day just on one post about the subject and over 100 private messages and emails! A real boost for my humble site stats for sure, but a real eye-opener in terms of how much this subject affects people’s lives and psyches.

I recently took my kids to the circus, myself hoping that the clown/s there would be creepy enough to entertain me (well, I’m not scared of clowns if you’re wondering) but what I ended up finding is that “real career clowns” if I can call them that, are somewhat watered down compared to the traditional idea, which for me at least was a bit disappointing!

What I will do here, is monitor the subject in the media over the course of the movie release, and what I find, I will blog about. One thing is assured this time, is that if my own area sees the return of the Doncaster Clown (or other pretenders to the title) I will try my best to get an interview with the guy, in fact, if there are any other regional clowns, I’ll also try to start up a conversation with them, just to see what motivates these folks to do what they do!

Who knows, I might end up making some clown related PDFs, minis or similar type stuff to cash in on the craze (well, if it happens) and the very least should help me shift some books!

Whatever happens, mark my words. The clowns will return, and I’ll be here to keep you up to date with the associated craziness that comes along with it! Let me know your thoughts and comments on the subject!

Classic Horror: Clownhouse. (1989)

22 Nov

It’s been a while since I shared a classic horror movie with you, and I thought I’d make it relevant. Clownhouse.

The story follows Casey (Nathan Forrest Winters), a normal boy whose life is constantly influenced by his intense fear of clowns. His two older brothers, Geoffrey (Brian McHugh) and Randy (Sam Rockwell), are mostly disobliging. One night, the three boys are left alone when their mother visits relatives, so they decide to visit a local circus for a night of amusement, despite Casey’s uncontrollable coulrophobia. Meanwhile, the local state insane asylum has sent a majority of the hospital’s inmates to the carnival for therapy, but three psychotic mental patients break away from the group and kill three clowns, taking their makeup and costumes…

Enjoy (or not if you dislike clowns…)

27 Oct

Ok, so it’s nearly that time of year, so I thought I’d enlighten you on some upcoming horror movie news. If you haven’t gathered already, I am a big horror nut,  and I do like to keep up with what’s coming out, so I don’t miss out on some cool films (well, some are cool, some are appalling, you just never know until you watch them!)

ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER TO STAR IN NEW ZOMBIE MOVIE!

In a weird move, Arnie has apparently signed up to play the father of a teenager infected with the zombie virus. the film Maggie will tell the tale of this tragic transformation and its effects on a family. Lets face it, this could be shit, but Arnie Vs Zombies has far more appeal than Brad Shitt ever did! Roll on Legend of Conan, that’s all I say!!

ARMY OF DARKNESS 2 (EVIL DEAD 4/EVIL DEAD 2 REMAKE), AND THE RETURN OF ASH!!

From the end of the Evil Dead remake, we knew there was something good to come from good old Bruce Cambell, and this end credits cameo and now confirmed news that he will indeed reprise his role as Ash in the sequel to both the original trilogy and strangely the new remake, how thats going to be dealt with in this mash up is anyone’s guess, but I don’t mind, I have a feeling it’s going to get groovy….

Grinning Skull at the movies: World War Z

4 Jul

WorldWarZ-Poster

Well, well well, I thought it was time to put up a review about the latest zombie movie everyone’s been talking about (mainly for negative reasons…) World War Z.

I had seen much about this movie on the net, before even seeing the film there were plenty of rumours and spoilers that I thought were going to cloud my opinions about it beforehand. Even so I hate pretty much anything with Brad Pitt in (well, just it’s Brad Pitt I can’t stand, he’s such a floppy haired dickhead…) I thought I should at least give the zombies a try, who doesn’t love zombies? Right?

Now, I haven’t read the Max Brooks book yet, and I was waiting for the film to come out, then read them (Yeah, I’m weird like that) to compare, that way I think I will appreciate the books more, since this cinematic effort is just a dire example of what hollywood deems to be a “zombie movie” (remember Warm Bodies, that was shit too)

I must like causing myself pain and suffering, because I really did try and watch it with an open mind, I wanted to be wrong about the swarming zombie ant, liquid poured effects, the poor story and script, ropey acting from Pitt and co, but the nails in the coffin for me at least, were mentions of the word “Zombie”, I mean come on, since when in decent zombie media of any type refers to the undead using the term? Walkers, runners, munchers, biters, ghouls etc are a mark of quality, albeit some might say an extra level of realism given to the setting by thoughtful writers to create more believeability to the thing. (Not that zombies are realistic anyway, but those involved in genre dabbling should at least try!) Using the word scores minus points in my book.

Without spoiling the end for you who haven’t seen it yet, or plan to, frankly it’s utter drivel, and so ridiculously cheesy, hooray for Brad, he saves the world! Nothing downbeat and signifiying the end of the human race here, everything works out for us! Gee, thanks Brad, it sure is swell you were here! What a load of bollocks! I’m just thinking of any good points, but it’s tricky! I thought the whole idea of the genre was that there was the impending doom of survival, not this crap. As the lyric from System of a Down’s song goes: you should have never trusted Hollywood. (to make a decent movie!)

Good points: Well, like I said not too many, a few good action bits, some odd bits of destruction here and there, high point for me zombie wise was how the infected went from being bitten etc, to rising as a zomer, that was OK. Still not enough to shout about.

I must add that there were parts I found pretty boring too, and when I get board, I have a habit of messing around in cinemas and such in situations like this, but I did resist the urge this time! Could it be World War ZZZZZzzzzzzzzz……

There are just so many things I dislike about this movie and it goes without saying on subsequent watching I fear there would be more faults I could pick (but I think I’ll be watching something else)

world-war-z

Please Brad, don’t adopt my children, you floppy haired c**t!

Note to Hollywood: It does not take a massive budget and big star to make a good zombie movie, most of the biggest films of the genre were made on tiny budgets. I get that the zombie bandwagon isn’t something that you’ve had much of an opportunity to exploit fully yet, and bastardise it to oblivion, so please take a hint from the past masters in the genre.

Wouldn’t it have been better to have called the film something else, thus eliminating the need for huge amounts to have been spent on the rights to the adaptation? Cast another lesser known, or even unknown actor to play the part of the hero too. Was it justified by casting Brad Pitt and spending more money for a film thats going to bomb (It’s no classic I tell ya!) You know all he’s going to do with his cash is buy some more orphans or something! Words cannot describe how disappointing this movie actually was for me, I wanted it to be OK, alas twas not to be!

Summing up after my vitriol. It’s shit.

I feel dirty and used that I spent my money on seeing it.

Watch it and be prepared to feel abused by the might of the studios and their latest mindf**k. (And I haven’t even told you what I thought about Man of Steel yet!!)

Bathsalts zombies: A year on.

25 Jun

I’ts been a just over a year since the bathsalts zombie phenomena first came to our attention through the media, when on 26th May 2012 bath salts user Rudy Eugene tried to eat the flesh off homeless Ronald Poppo‘s face, while high on the synthetic drug.

While you might think things are quiet on the front concerning bath salts cases, you’d be wrong. Bath salts and it’s rage zombies are still there, going on strong. The whole bathsalts zombies subject really fascinates me, to think that there are these crazies running around doing the whole zombie thing is straight out of the horror movies! Bring on the apocolypse!!

I know that many of my readers come through my site just for news of real world zombie stuff like this, so with that in mind I thought I’d put up a couple of choice newer bits of related bath salts zombie news from around the net. For those of you who haven’t heard about the deadly drug and it’s effects, take a look at the video just to see these mentals in action.

http://www.psmag.com/health/bath-salts-zombies-crossbows-60475/

I would like to highlight this article on the subject if your interest lies in the realms of the real life drug fuelled zombie , which also includes an incident from the couple of weeks.

Lets face it, the bath saltszombie is here to stay.

Now, where’s my weapons….!

Apocolypse now, folks!!!
