Grinning Skull’s Link Quest Web Challenge, would you take up the quest?

7 Nov

Well, hello there you lot! I’m back again once more, letting you know about my latest brainfart idea that hopefully will prove entertaining (to say the least!)

I’ll explain in the best way I can, as with all my other ideas, I’m going to throw it out there and see what traction it ends up having, but that will depend entirely on you, my dear audience!

You will remember me telling you that I have been very, very busy, and I can’t emphasise enough that all the time I have available, is not enough to achieve the myriad of tasks I need to do to operate this fledgling operation of mine at a higher frequency. Of course, all the stuff I try and create each month takes time and effort, and doesn’t leave much time for getting the word out there about what I’m up to and what’s been released and such.

I do try to push myself to get the word spread as much as possible, but since I have a lot of hats to wear in this, promoting all things Grinning Skull can fall short when I’m busy creating content, organising schedules, and loads of other mind-numbing tasks needed to keep moving forward. Add to this, since switching my domain here on this site to a dedicated domain (www.thegrinningskull.com) it has literally altered stuff in the search engines, and traffic patterns have changed. A bad thing for getting the word out, as it seems as a lot of the long hours I first put into establishing backlinks and other web type stuff needed to make my voice heard in the many billions of pages in the sea of data on the web, has been unravelled since switching to the new domain.

Indeed, I’m not saying that this will always be the case, I understand that given more time and more effort, it’ll even out once more, but it’ll take time, and more effort, a commodity that I find myself short of right now.

So, I’m implementing a way to help get Grinning Skull get a boost, a way that you could help out, and be rewarded for your efforts too.

It’s called the “Grinning Skull Link Quest Web Challenge”

So then, what the fook am I talking about? Well, I’m looking for some individuals out there to take part in a regular competition to help get the info out there, people willing to take the challenge of posting Grinning Skull related links to the web, to the people that might not have heard or seen what it is we do. I’m not talking about spamming to unrelated sites and so on, just places it’s going to benefit both us and those who would find our content useful.

I’m not a big forum or social media dweller, but I do realise that in this day and age, the importance of this for building a brand and following. Things such as this tend to zap the spare time I have, which I could be used to create more content and push forward on my various plans.

So, I’m looking for a group of willing volunteers to take part in the challenge, to post valid links and backlinks of all things Grinning Skull, and earn themselves the chance to get free stuff as being crowned monthly link quest champion.

Of course, it’s only going to work if I can get a few of you involved, and I also understand that it may all come to naught (If my experience of competition type things is anything to go by, can be an excercise akin to “Pissing in the Wind”!)

So, if you think you’d like to take part, email me via the contact form and let me know. If enough of you get involved we can get the ball rolling and get things started. I’ll keep you informed with the progress as it transpires, and as ever, I’m interested in your thoughts and comments about this, as well as any other Grinning Skull type info!!

Skulltaliser Update: WE DID IT!

26 May

Well, we’ve done it, funds raised and ready to go! I knew we’d do it before the month’s end.

Next, it’ll be monetisation time, an upgrade of the site. Please accept my thanks for all the encouragement and views for going along with my brainfarts, for once it’s given me some focus to get something done that I’d been wanting to do for a long time!

You’ll be seeing some big changes here over the next couple of months, so I hope you’ll go on this journey with me as I grow the site!!

Thanks!!!

Skulltaliser Update (and you can buy me a coffee if you like!)

19 May

So, it’s that time again to show you where we are on the mighty Skulltaliser chart at this point in time.

So, we’re at $59 so far. Will we reach the goal by the end of the month? I would say so.

One thing you can do to help is buying me a coffee! Yes that’s right, you can help by showing your appreciation by buying me a cuppa joe! Ko-fi is an easy way to support creators (such as myself) and is simple to use.

Just click the link (either at the side bar of this page, or the link below) and it’ll take you through to our very own page where you can do so (all proceeds to the skulltaliser total)

(thanks to Dagger & Brush for this idea!!)

More from the Skulltaliser later…

Wargames Supply Dump get set to release the Draxxon!

31 Jan

So I’m here briefly to talk about the Draxxion sculpts I sold on a while ago to Roger at Wargames Supply Dump. I’ve not had much time for the net lately, trying rather to get back on track with stuff, mostly painting and planning designs and such. Roger kindly sent me some finished castings of them to paint up, which I finally got around to (also, you read rogers blog post about them here)

If you are a regular here, you might remember the greens I made, they were ok, but as much of my stuff, they were a brain fart based on my idea. the only thing was I wasn’t entirely happy with the concept vs how they turned out, that’s why I ended up selling them on. No doubt a new and improved version of the Draxxion will emerge at some point, there are a few other ideas brewing that will come first!

The Brood leader turned out pretty good, I always liked that one, the other overseer guard was ok too. They’re also pretty big beasts compared to the 15mm-ish forces they were percieved to face. You could say that these would make good 25-28mm troops as well depending. The Draxx were always designed to be big buggers, as you would imagine being dragons at various stages of age and growth (so, thats how I’ll use them, but I’ll get into that later…)

Onto the smaller brood, we’ve got the scout (well, that’s my take on it) it’s still big if you compare it to 15mm stuff, but he’s a step down from the elites. He’s got a studious look to him, definite leader material, or advisor in some shape or form.

Next up is the next size down, some kind of heavy, quite a oriental feel to him (the head at least) he’ll make a fine leader for a heavy weapons detachment I’m planning.

Last, are the smaller 15mm-ish brood warriors. A load of these would be great, filling in the gaps of the battle force (which I don’t have, but I do have some additions of my own for my wargaming purposes!)

As with a lot of the figures I sculpt, there are plenty of uses for these, in scales from 15mm, 20mm and more, it’s up to you! You’ll have to forgive my paintwork and my pics, with lighting being bad, it’s tricky to get the desired effect I want, plus I don’t know where my glasses are, so it makes it even harder to see (but, I’ll soldier on.)

Like I’ve mentioned, I’ll be making a Draxx warband using these, and some other stuff I have around, and these will make a good start as the command section. I’ll post the progress soon.

I hope that these figures are useful to some of you, it gives me a buzz to know that other people might collect, paint and game with any of the stuff I create from random brainfarts, and indeed any ideas my head spawns, and remember I appreciate any constructive comments pertaining to anything raised here.

I’ll be back later with more miniature and wargaming dooings (It’s about time I brought it back in line) once I have sorted a few bits and caught up with webby stuff.

ciao!
