Osprey’s Rogue Stars: Is it any good? Give me your recommendations?

5 Sep

So, been browsing about, and I’ve noticed Rogue Stars: Skirmish Wargaming in a Science Fiction Underworld (Osprey Wargames), which has caught my eye with a prospect of getting it. I absolutely know jack s**t about it, only that it seems like an attempt at a mini skirmish game attempt from Osprey to get some of that sweet Star Wars/Guardians of the Galaxy/Marvel Cosmic type of vibe going on! Which is exactly why I’m attracted to it in the first place.

Thing is, I’ve got a habit of collecting miniatures that don’t really fit anywhere else, just loads of weird and wonderful little lead men (and creatures) that would seem that I could actually put them to use in a game of this. I’ve got CP models Avians that spring to mind to start with, but just looking at my lead piles, I could easily find a shed load of possibles. Only thing is, is Rogue Stars any good? North Star is doing a funky looking mini line, which a few of them look pretty cool

It’s got ok reviews, but some are not so good. Some say it’s got a Rogue Trader-esque feel to the whole approach, so that keeps me interested, but I’m still sitting on the fence about it.

If you have any info, or have played it,  let me know your views on the game, and see if you’ll persuade me to buy it, I hope so, I do love making sci-fi scenics and terrain. I can see it now…A new series of terrain tutorials, “Grim’s Dark Futures…”!

The Telly Rant: Too Much or Not enough?

4 Sep

Watching & catching up with your fave shows these days is a lot easier in this day and age, what with the event of the smart TV and internet, but I’m also finding it a pain too.
I don’t know if you agree with me or not, but with just the sheer amount of good telly available now, it’s also a real pain finding the time to watch what I want too!

I’ve just got around to catching up with the latest series of HBO’s Game of Thrones – Season 7 [DVD] [2017], which was pretty damn good I think you’d agree (Littlefinger getting slashed in the throat, classic!!) and I got around to seeing The Defenders on Netflix (Loved that too!)
My trouble with it all is that it seems like a trek just trying to get up to date on everything. I’m behind with The Flash, I’m behind with DC Legends of Tomorrow S2 [DVD] [2017], Bob’s Burgers: The Complete 4th Season, Agents of Shield, Supergirl and a whole host of other TV shows and as time goes on, it’s going to get very overwhelming indeed.

At least I’ll be ready for the new series of Star Wars Rebels Season 3 [Blu-ray] [Region Free] and The Walking Dead Season 7 [DVD] [2017], but I wouldn’t like to think what it’d be like if I had to start from scratch from the beginning!

Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Genre TV shows, it’s much better than it used to be back in the day, I just think that maybe it’s too much. (Will we all have square eyes?)

The way we are consuming media like this these days is changing to be sure, and I’m not going to diss it all, as the standard is right up there, more so than movies in some respects, but at the rate we are going, how long before it all goes tits up? you know, when will there be a fly in the ointment? (so to speak)

Somehow, there are so many great programs on the box, I’m going to have to ditch some of it just so I have time to do other stuff, that is more pressing matters (Hey, I’ve got an empire to build here!) Fear the Walking Dead – Season 2 [DVD] will have to wait!

I was just wondering how others feel about this, do any of you share these views, or do you disagree?
