The Telly Rant: Too Much or Not enough?

4 Sep

Watching & catching up with your fave shows these days is a lot easier in this day and age, what with the event of the smart TV and internet, but I’m also finding it a pain too.
I don’t know if you agree with me or not, but with just the sheer amount of good telly available now, it’s also a real pain finding the time to watch what I want too!

I’ve just got around to catching up with the latest series of HBO’s Game of Thrones – Season 7 [DVD] [2017], which was pretty damn good I think you’d agree (Littlefinger getting slashed in the throat, classic!!) and I got around to seeing The Defenders on Netflix (Loved that too!)
My trouble with it all is that it seems like a trek just trying to get up to date on everything. I’m behind with The Flash, I’m behind with DC Legends of Tomorrow S2 [DVD] [2017], Bob’s Burgers: The Complete 4th Season, Agents of Shield, Supergirl and a whole host of other TV shows and as time goes on, it’s going to get very overwhelming indeed.

At least I’ll be ready for the new series of Star Wars Rebels Season 3 [Blu-ray] [Region Free] and The Walking Dead Season 7 [DVD] [2017], but I wouldn’t like to think what it’d be like if I had to start from scratch from the beginning!

Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Genre TV shows, it’s much better than it used to be back in the day, I just think that maybe it’s too much. (Will we all have square eyes?)

The way we are consuming media like this these days is changing to be sure, and I’m not going to diss it all, as the standard is right up there, more so than movies in some respects, but at the rate we are going, how long before it all goes tits up? you know, when will there be a fly in the ointment? (so to speak)

Somehow, there are so many great programs on the box, I’m going to have to ditch some of it just so I have time to do other stuff, that is more pressing matters (Hey, I’ve got an empire to build here!) Fear the Walking Dead – Season 2 [DVD] will have to wait!

I was just wondering how others feel about this, do any of you share these views, or do you disagree?

I keep a list of current TV shows that my wife and I watch to track what we have seen – there’s about 20 series on it. Separate to that are the series that I’d like to watch (like the SW Rebels you mentioned) that won’t interest her, and there are some she watches that aren’t in english. I think the variety is great and the quality of productions is much better than it used to be – but it’s very difficult trying to keep up with everything!

Both my partner and I watch totally different stuff, apart from TWD, so a lot of my TV time is when she/the kids are not in, usually when I’m working on something, I’ll have a TV on, usually catching up. I tend to find that it’s not just new TV that i’ll watch, I’m a sucker for 70’s & 80’s stuff, just for the nostalgia buzz! My time is short nowadays, but indeed, the standards are pretty good these days!
