Followers of the strange, might have seen this already, but for those who haven’t, in the US state of Oklahoma in a place called Paseo, a strange and unspeakable monument has turned up out of the blue.

No one apparently knows just who or what has put it there, or for what purpose, and it seems as if there could be a dark and brooding connection….

Inscribed on a brass plaque, it reads..

“In the year of our lord 2012, Creer Pipi, Claims this land for Azathoth

Is this an indication that sinister cults are up to no good? Or that cthonic entities are about to claw up some land in the new world? Crawling chaos indeed!

Well, as for Creer Pipi, it seems that the answer could be a few Mythos fans having a laugh, as Creer seems to mean “to believe” and Pipi literally is “Pee” or “Piss”! Quite literally they seem to be taking the piss!

The area is reportedly one of lots of arty types, and knowing lots of types like that, it wouldn’t surprise me this was the case.

However, there could indeed be more to this mystery if you take into account that there do exist actual covens of Neo pagan chaos magickians that really do use the whole HPL mythos in their rites and ceremonies, so in another sense we could be looking at a real attempt at some kind of fucked up new age occult rituals. Markers stones like this are used in the occult to create larger sacred working spaces and/or sanctify/corrupt the area for better use with rituals, in much the same way christians will bless or consecrate holy ground.

My money is on a joke, the creer pipi reference sort of gives it away.

Regardless, we might never know the truth behind the mystery, as it’s going to be removed anyway. I’m sure the culprits are basking in their 15 minutes of internet stardom….

Crowdfunding Spotlight: 15mm-32mm Terrain Maps Aftermath Mods Kickstarter

31 Aug

Now I’m back from my holiday, I want to point out this new KS from the guys at Aftermath Mods. If you recall, earlier this year they had some success with the modular terrain warehouse campaign, and they are back this time with something that will appeal to modern wargamers and RPGers. These 2D maps are going to be useful for any number of genres and scales, and is especially handy for 15mm zombie gamers like myself, to allow a bit of indoor fighting if your a bit bored with having to play your skirmishes on an outdoor terrain board.

There’s plenty of map options, and if you need them pre-printed, there’s an option for that too! I think there’s a lack of stuff like this available on the whole, lets hope in the future, us gamers will get more maps like these, especially scaleable to 15mm as with the PDFs they are offering.

Whilst I do like the idea, my only criticism is that I’d like them to have more detail and colour on them, or even some way of incorporating a card building system to fit over the top that you can remove when a building is entered etc. That would be very nice indeed.

Still, there’s nothing to say you can’t do that for yourself with a bit of forethought. Anyway, they are a handy thing to have for games, and remember you can print out as many copies as you like and no doubt, create huge custom boards.

Go and check the project and give them a hand raising the remaining funds needed to make the campaign a success!

Grinning Skull Miniatures: My growing Oggam warhosts…

20 Aug

DSCF2728 Although the title of this post, does sound a bit like some kind of medical condition, I can assure you even so my Oggams have been growing, I’m not in any pain!! Seriously though (Well, not too serious…) I just wanted to show you my warbands being prepared for some WAR PIGS playtesting, I still have a fair bit of painting, terrain making and writing left to do, but at least things are starting to come together slowly with the whole thing. In between sculpting new stuff, back logs of miniatures in my painting queue and so forth, the ideas continue to flow regarding the famous mutant pig ogres and the game universe of all things Grinning Skull, otherwise known as the “Carnage Continuum”, the messed up place born from my head!! I would show you here my latest creations in green, such as the now finished “Clukkatrix” and the treacherous canine Volpurgi troopers, but I forgot to take some photos in my haste for getting away this week! I do promise to get the pics up next week, along with some fluff concerning the whole Okvan Chukk and their oggam masters. (And some about the role of the Volpurgi and how they fit in…) Anyway, on to the real business. Above you can see two units of my League of Anthracks battle brothers and fire support from an accompanying Firrog Tor fire warrior. It’s highly likely that they will be joined by a couple more units of armoured brothers, and and an elite unit of heavy Okvan Stormtroopers too. I’m planning on some support from a Stank (Oggam sewage firing armoured vehicle) and a Trog troop transport, but that’ll be later. Anywhoo, here’s a few pics. DSCF2720 DSCF2721 DSCF2722 DSCF2725 DSCF2727 As for my opposing side from the Empire of Og, up to press I have two units of oggam light infantry done (well, there’s a unit away on photo duties elsewhere…) but, they do have vehicle support from a finished converted APC, complete with custom sculpted tank commander. I have a Trog transporter on the go as well, but that aint finished yet (you can see the undercoated vehicle in the pic) these dudes even have a allied Scrofa Truffle miner and his loyal pigdog in tow, hired to root out precious fungi for the boss! DSCF2332 DSCF2229  DSCF2231 DSCF2232 You might have noticed in the background of the first pic, some strange looking buildings, these are prototype designs for styles of oggam architecture which will be playing a big part of the WAR PIGS campaign rules, more about them later as I’m still working on a lot of designs and types. As you know all the standard figures used are from my Grinning Skull range available from 15mm.co.uk if you fancy getting some for yourself! Ciao!

Ion Age reborn! Great news from Alternative Armies and 15mm.co.uk!

20 Aug

ionlogo_500pix_ws.1.1

I just wanted to reblog the latest news from AA and 15mm.co.uk, a great bit of welcome news for us 15mm gamers especially, with a relaunch of their Ion Age universe. Anyway, I’ll let the them explain in their own words rather than me have a go and possibly cocking it up!

Today is a special day for it is today that Alternative Armies and 15mm.co.uk would like to announce to all of their lovely customers and fans that there is a new baby in our brand family and its name is www.theionage.com .  Its a little chap just now but its gonna grow real fast and if you are a fan of science fiction miniature wargaming with a focus on Space Opera and heroic style rather than a trend of re-hashing a grim and repetitively bland future then The Ion Age is for you.

Ever since Gavin Syme first played the original Ion Age game ‘Firefight’ back in the 1990’s he has wanted to put The Ion Age back where it belonged, front and centre, back where it was in the early 1990’s with Alternative Armies.  Its taken time and a lot of effort but the moment is now here.  Releases and surprises are lined up, rewards and specials all arranged, a rule system in the play test stage.  Not only in the popular 28mm scale but also in the booming15mm scale too. A thousand years after the Ban of Prejudice saw the end of the first Khanate War now the Prydian Precinct stands torn by civil war and the once more looming threat of the return of the Khanate.   The Prydian Army is now united and led by the beautiful Princess Cyon and it is embattled all around.  To whom will go victory in this thrilling universe?

Every wargaming brand stands by its miniatures and its artwork and we have our lead designer Sam Croes heading up a stream of releases that will make you grin from ear to ear.  We have taken the Ion Age codes from the original HOF range and formed them into the IAF series where we promise that no code will EVER have any doubles in it.  That’s right every miniature in every pack is different.  Each week we will be expanding the Ion Age with a new 15mm release beginning with two releases this very week.  Each release can be bought as a pack or as singles or in multiple packs with a saving; total choice for you.

In addition to our new website we have an official blog for all the latest Ion Age happenings.  Go along and have a look at: http://theionageblog.blogspot.co.uk/ . In fact sign up to follow it so you are never behind on the news.  We also have a weekly newsletter which will be coming out through our partnership with Mailchimp; you can find a link to sign up for this on the footer of the website or at the top of the blog.  Email or Blog or both take your pick for the story of The Ion Age.

Each month we will be giving a free miniature away automatically, one for each and every order placed.  This miniature is unique and will NEVER be sold in any form or seen again once its time runs out.  The first miniature is now online, see it on the front page of website, a kneeling Retained Knight deep in thought before battle.  It will be the current miniature until the end of September (because it would be unfair it for only for the remainder of this month eh!) and then another will take its place.

Not enough for you eh? well here is something else that we at The Ion Age can offer you.  A Rewards Programme!  When you place an order on our website you will be signed up for the free programme and points will be credit to you to the value of your purchase.  As your points grow then you can redeem them any time for a discount or special Rewards Programme miniatures.  At the moment you can get 5% off or 10% off orders or the special Patrol Angis Vignette pack with your points.  When you sign up you will get full details and the current offers for points.  We begin with the existing Ion Age miniature range on the website but today we have our first brand new release IAF005 Balthazar and Jerome a two miniature 15mm personality pack depicting a noble Retained Knight and his loyal varlet.  Great for leading any 15mm force in the Prydian Army or the ranks of any Marcher Baron.  Go along and check out these new miniatures now!

Well that is it for our virtual hello and handshake we hope you decide to check us out and like what you see.  In fact drop us an email on info@theionage.com if you have any questions.  But don’t despair because seeing as how it’s launch week we have to things left to say.  Firstly since we are great guys we are going to stick a couple of extra free miniatures in every order for free until the end of August and secondly our next release will be something that has been on the top of many Ion Age wargamers for years for sculpting in 15mm scale….something our website background art is already depicting. Find out later this week!

The Ion Age Team

Indeed, some promising news there, I’ll be watching how this progresses. It’s great to see the guys there are always finding ways to drive the 15mm scifi community happy with innovative and interesting stuff!

Ciao Amigos!!

Hey GW, Why no 15mm Warhammer 40K?

20 Aug
Rogue Trader - the first edition of Warhammer ...

Rogue Trader – the first edition of Warhammer 40,000 (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Since I have a bit of quiet relaxing time to myself tonight, chilling on my hols, I have been musing again over various stuff.

This one has been bugging me for ages. No doubt it’s a bane of contention for other 15mm wargamers the world over.

Why hasn’t GW jumped on this bandwagon, since 15mm scifi is a hot property at the moment (probably due to the economy forcing players to downsize their lead addiction from 32/30/28mm to 15mm) GW have an opportunity to get those disillusioned ex-40K players back in the fold, but alas for those 15mm-ers who crave to play 40K in the smaller scale, there are scant little decent proxy models for the various sides and races of the 40k fluff, unless your willing to faff about with dozens of miniature firms to get odds and sods. Sure you can even play old faves like Necromunda in 15mm pretty easily, just a shame they dropped it years ago!

Yes it’s true that indeed there are lots of us who’d jump at the chance of this, and many out there are busy scratch building and converting away to create their own versions of space marines or orcs etc, but if they are anything like me, I know they’d sell their first born for some decent official 15mm miniatures!

Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t like the fact that if Games Workshop actually get around to doing this, It will cost me a bloody fortune, maybe not as much as a 28/30mm force (Well, if GW have anything to do with it, it’ll be more than everyone elses stuff!) Speaking as a long time 40k player, I have been into the game for years and years, since the first edition (which is the best in my humble opinion) but since the Evil Empire emerged and crushed the soul from it, I have been crying inside…..

Still, would it be a good thing if they did a 15mm 40k? It’s bound the drive the price of 15mm figures up, which is pretty bad for us since most of us switched to 15mm to escape the over inflation of figure prices.

Personally, I’d like to throw this question out there to you people, and ask your thoughts on this.

What’s your opinions on this whole thing?

Let me know….
