15mm Zombies part 2: Return of the unliving lead….

12 Sep

So, remember the 15mm.co.uk zombies I have been doing? Well, guess what? I finished em’!

I thought I’d let you see the finished article. First off, I’ll tell you what I’ve done to them, I ended up painting all but three, but for the most part, they will do as for Saturday’s game.

There they are, plus the survivors (I’ll come to them in a minute) As you can see they are all based up by PVA and a liberal dunking in some model railway ballast in grey, left to dry and then inked with black (Badab black by shitadel I mean Citadel!) then drybrushed in a mid-light grey, after that, a few patches of brown flock, then a few smaller patches of static grass got glued on with PVA. A few get a tiny bit of modelling moss and they’re done.

My nine year old daughter, pointed out that I had failed to remember that in most zombie movies, there was litter on the streets and usually had old newspapers blowing around and that I should do that. How? I thought, but I then had an idea…

I scoured the net to find some newspaper front pages and random sheets, if I could shrink them down to 15mm size versions, I could do it, not just for my streets and scenery I would make in the future, but on the models themselves (No, zombies wouldn’t be reading the news, on the base of course!) More about that in a bit…

On to the survivors….

ImageImageImage

So I have four survivors done so far, Joe the trucker/redneck with a shotgun (My son named him Joe, like in the PS3 game, Resistance 3, superb game that one…) Earl the gang member, armed with handgun and blade. Sam the kid, armed with handgun and Bubba the survivalist/reservist guard with submachine gun. If you want me to ID the figures, I think Joe, Earl and Bubba are GZG,and Sam is a lazerburn figure, could be wrong, but I got them off Ebay in several different lots, so correct me if I’m wrong. I have some more left to do, but as far as saturday is concerned that’s enough for four players + me as ref/zombie master.

Can you remember me telling you about the poses of the zomerz? (Please note, myself and many I know have a habit of calling the living dead, zomerz/zomers, It’s force of habit, sorry) Well I have some pics for comparison with the same sculpt, anyway heres what I mean…

As you can see, I really does change the aspect of the figure and add variety, especially with these figures as they lack great detail (good job they are just fodder..)

Newspapers….as I was saying, I managed to get the newspapers shrunk down to roughly the right size, and with a bit of tearing, cutting and gluing I added some to a few of my zombies. Here are the results…

Image

It worked great, you can just make out what the headline says. Its a copy of the Sun newspaper (UK tabloid daily for our international readers) It has the headline from the recent riots “ANARCHY”, if there was ever an apocolypse the sun would no doubt print that.

This one says “THE DEAD WALK”, add some gore and it looks the dogs doo-dahs!

For this one the front page was from a Bolton newspaper (Hey, I know, I’m a Yorkshire man, but it did have a good headline) It says “Don’t Be Scared”, obviously not of zombies, but something else…Looked good though. This one is actually a mini 3 page newspaper if you look carefully (I wanted to see if it worked, and I think it did!) I cut the tiny sheets out, glued down one side really carefully (these are really small, so one wrong breath or draft/sneeze and I would have had to cut another…) stuck em together and ended up with a mini newspaper to scrunch up and add as trash to the base. I have made a PDF of loads and loads of 15mm size newspapers so you can download them and print them for your self if you require them, pretty much one sheet of A4 will be all you will ever need as there are tons of them! I will post and update the site shortly, they will be on the downloads section of this site. I know that you could make them yourselves if you really needed to, but I myself would prefer them predone to save time, so I did it so you don’t have to!

OK zombies in action scenes….tell me what you think….THE ESCAPE….Da da daaaaa!

So, will they escape alive? Will they become zombie chow? We will see on Saturday! I will try and do a battle rep, but only if I don’t forget and get caught up in the game!

I will do you a photo shortly and post it here. I’ll try and find a “true”15mm and a “heroic”15mm (thats 18mm, the bigger end of 15mm), They are a slight bit bigger than normal 15mm, but not too much. I’ve heard that some 20mm gamers have used them along with the plastic 1/76-1/72 scale soldiers as well. They’re good as their cheap and you get quite a lot for your money, just not too much detail and bad poses. if you need 15mm zombies though, they are ideal!

I usually do not write a comment, however I looked at a few of the responses here
15mm Zombies part 2: Return of the unliving lead.

The Grinning Skull. I actually do have some questions for you if it’s allright. Could it be only me or does it look as if like a few of the comments appear as if they are left by brain dead visitors? 😛 And, if you are writing at additional places, I’d like to follow everything new you have to post.
Would you post a list of all of your public pages like your twitter feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?
